Kanheri Caves Experience

Kanheri Caves Experience

per person

Explore the ancient Kanheri Caves, located deep inside a dense forest in Mumbai.

Go on a journey back into time at Kanheri Caves, located deep inside the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. With our local expert, Mr. Ravaba Sardar you will retrace the ancient origins of Buddhism in Mumbai, marvel over the impressive methods used to build the caves and experience the daily life of the National Park’s local inhabitants.

Mr. Sardar, a practicing Buddhist and the head of the Buddhist Committee of the region, will enlighten you through the caves and the National Park. Having lived in the park all his life, he has a rather interesting perspective of this popular getaway, which in his words is, “an island of peace within the island of Mumbai.”

This experience will also include a visit to a tribal settlement where we will see and learn about the popular Warli art. We will also make a short climb up to earn a panoramic view of the forest, the suburbs and the crocodile-filled Tulsi Lake.

Come, join us on this walk with Mr. Sardar, a Mumbaikar who breathes fresh air and doesn’t encounter any traffic in his daily routine! He will happily answer any questions you may have about Buddhism, the caves and life in the national park.

Took the Kanheri Caves heritage tour today.

Great experience. Good to know something like this exists in Mumbai. The company does a good job of keeping the experience unique and authentic. Learned many new things about the Buddhists living in the area and the heritage of the caves. The caves have undergone a recent renovation as well and are in great condition now. The breeze and views from the caves are the best of the national park.

You just have get yourself to the entrance of the national park. They handle all the transport, and tickets from there. If you get there on time then you miss the bigger crowds on a Sunday which makes for a significantly better experience. The Poha (I had 3 servings) and chai at the end is everything you want it to be.

Attended the Kanheri Caves heritage tour on 26th November.

Having lived in Mumbai all my life, I have visited the place before but this experience was like no other. The organisers made sure the tour was a unique and personal experience. The tour guide was engaging and shared a lot of interesting tit bits about the historical relevance of the caves and the Buddhist monks who made the caves. The caves are in great condition thanks to the renovation done in the past few months and the view from the top of the caves is breathtaking.
The tour started on time and was very well planned and executed. The tour ended with us having a bite to eat at the guide’s home, yummy poha and chai which really topped off the entire experience for me.

Make sure you reach the park gate on time and the organisers handle everything else from there. Would definitely recommend this experience to anyone looking to discover the historical monuments in Mumbai. Cannot wait to attend another one of these tours and enrich my Sunday morning. Big ups to Mr Ravaba for making this a one of a kind experience.
