Where are the Kanheri caves? How is our local expert connected to them? What is the significance of the caves and the park today?
Go on a journey back into time at the Kanheri Caves, located deep inside the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. With our local expert Ravaba you will retrace the ancient origins of Buddhism in Mumbai, marvel over the impressive methods used to build the caves and experience the daily life of the National Park’s local inhabitants.
Ravaba, who is a practicing Buddhist and the head of the Buddhist Committee of the region, will enlighten you through the caves and the National Park. Having lived in the park all his life, he has a rather interesting perspective of this popular getaway, which in his words is, “an island of peace within the island of Mumbai.”
We will also make a short climb up to earn a panoramic view of the forest, the suburbs and the crocodile-filled Tulsi Lake. This experience will also include breakfast at our local experts home, where we will see and learn about life inside the national park.
Come, join us on this experience with our local expert, a Mumbaikar who breathes fresh air and doesn’t encounter any traffic in his daily routine! He will happily answer any questions you may have about Buddhism, the caves and life in the national park.
