What is unique about Elephanta Island? What are the mythological stories within the Elephanta Caves? Are there villages on the island?

On our Elephanta Island Experience, you will visit the Elephanta caves – a UNESCO world heritage site, as well as the rest of Elephanta island, a tropical paradise still covered in dense native forests.

There are few inhabited islands along India’s coasts, and Elephanta Island is a very unique one. It has ancient caves full of mythology, stupas, a freshwater lake, hills with giant cannons and entire villages with no traffic whatsoever!

Only an hour long boat ride away from Mumbai, on this experience you will visit the ancient Elephanta Caves and unlock the many tales they seek to tell travellers. You will be guided by our local expert Milind who knows every inch of the island inside out.

After the caves we will take a short walk through dense jungle to arrive at our local expert’s village – which was recently electrified! In the village, our local expert will take us to his home and help us understand the culture of the Agri and Koli communities that call the island their home.

The peace and quiet of this surreal village will certainly surprise you, given its proximity to the megapolis of Mumbai.
